Daniel Barbiero is a double bassist, composer and writer in the Washington DC area. He writes on the art, music and literature of the classic avant-gardes of the 20th century and on contemporary work. He is a regular contributor to Avant Music News, Perfect Sound Forever and Percorsi Musicali. As a performer of non-conventionally notated contemporary works, he has recorded or realized scores by composers Alexis Porfiriadis, Makoto Nomura, Silvia Corda, Didier Guigue, and others. As a composer, he has had his scores realized by 6daEXIt, The X=/=X Ensemble, The Subtle Body Transmission Orchestra, double bassist Michele Bondesan, OpusNovus, The Nancy Havlik Dance Performance Group, cellist Gary Rouzer, double bassist George Kokkinaris, and others.  He is the author of the essay collection As Within, So Without (Arteidolia Press, 2021).
